Progressive also distinguishes itself from competitors through its innovative use of technology designed with safety, convenience and affordability in mind. As a result, Progressive ranked in the cheapest quartile in WalletHub's price ranking study.

Progressive Home Insurance Review Highlights

Progressive offers both homeowners insurance and renters insurance, along with discounts for bundling them with other Progressive insurance policies.

A homeowners insurance policy from Progressive protects your personal property from fire, most acts of nature, damage or theft. It also protects you, the homeowner, financially in case of an injury that occurs on your property.

Progressive renters insurance protects your personal belongings and helps pay for unexpected expenses, medical bills or legal fees incurred because of things like fire, storm damage or theft. However, it won’t cover damage caused by pests (termites, rodents, etc.), natural disasters (flooding, earthquakes, etc.) or aggressive dog breeds. It won’t cover personal belongings stolen from out of your vehicle like a homeowners insurance policy would, either.

Progressive homeowners and renters insurance policies both cover damaged or stolen electronics, appliances, tools, furniture, clothing and other personal possessions. But more expensive pieces, like works of art or jewelry, may need a separate policy for proper protection. Both homeowners and renters insurance from Progressive also cover temporary living expenses if policyholders can’t stay in their dwelling during repairs caused by a covered loss. Overall, Progressive’s homeowners and renters insurance policies are affordable and provide dependable coverage.

Progressive Home Insurance Review Highlights

Coverage option — Condo insurance, flood insurance, homeowners insurance, home security insurance, home warranty insurance, mobile home insurance, renters insurance.

Discounts — bundle auto and homeowners insurance, quote in advance, alarm systems and safety devices, new purchase, receive documents by email, new home construction, pay in full.

Bottom Line: Is Progressive a Good Insurance Company?

Yes, Progressive is a good insurance company. Overall, WalletHub’s editors give Progressive a rating of 3.9/5 due to its competitive rates, long list of discounts, and innovative use of technology to encourage price comparison and safe driving.

In addition to auto insurance, Progressive offers policies for pets, weddings/special events, boats, recreational vehicles and more. Health, dental, vision, life and umbrella insurance coverage options are also available. To learn more, check out WalletHub’s complete Progressive Insurance Review. I am really upset with Progressive and will be changing to another provider. My wife retired from her commute life & we move from San Francisco to a small town in North Carolina. What happens ? Progressive raises her insurance rates because she retired and drives less in a small town. Unbelievable !

I was with my 7 year old daughter when our car broke down. I called Progressive for roadside assistance and they told me I would have to wait until the next day to "possibly" get towed. I said, so you are telling me my daughter and I have to sleep in a car on the side of the road because this "insurance" I pay for cannot provide what is promised. The agent said,"I'm sorry ma'am. We cannot help you."

I have a policy with Progressive for four years. I will give them ZERO. I have no claims or tickets for those years. My payments never went down. I tried asking for discount since I had no accidents whatsoever for many years, not even a cent down and they kept on making false promises. Beware of this company who just wants your money

I need a copy of my policy but the website link doesn't work, the phone wait is interminable, and the automated system appears to be unreachable. But, I love the fake keystroke sounds the useless automated voice answering system produces. I'll bet the bill payment part of the automated voice answering system works flawlessly, 'cuz that's something Progressive Execs would care deeply about.

I called Progressive several times because I was unable to retrieve a quote I was given. I was promised that I would receive an email with the quote. I spent over an hour on the phone, kept checking my emails, and nothing. He then tells me I can retrieve it with the quote number. After numerous attempts and no successful retrieval of my quote, I called back and asked why it was impossible to get my quote in writing. I was then asked to hold while she did some research, and then she came up with what seemed to be an excuse that her supervisor had informed her, 'Our system is having technical difficulties.' I questioned, 'Since yesterday?' What a bunch of nonsense! Why do you not want to provide the Quote in writing? Why would I purchase a quote sight unseen? This, to me, is a red flag, and Progressive needs to be reported because it all sounds shady. Bad business and a horrible customer service experience!

Flo,

I'll try and make this quick because, unlike my local laundromat, I know this review isn't going to put Progressive out of business. I am hoping it sways people from using this BS insurance company, more specifically the scam known as Progressive Snapshot.

I travel a lot for work and spend a lot of my time in NYC (where I don't need a car), so because I don't drive much, I thought Snapshot was the device for me! Wrong.

The first device didn't work. Super. The second piece of crap they gave me sometimes worked... meaning it wasn't always communicating with the server at Progressive. So, it's not 3 months (at least) with Big Brother in your car; it's 3 months of connected days. VERY different when the device is garbage and fails to tell you when it disconnects. I also got a different answer from every m*ron I spoke to over there.

But here are the facts. I left town on business for about 7 weeks. This is me proving to Progressive that I really DON'T drive it a lot; I wasn't being dishonest. During that time, the POS device went offline 3 times. I had to call a neighbor to reset it. PLUS, after not driving the car for the majority of the test period, I ONLY GOT A B+. There was ONE violation. I stopped short to avoid a biker—sorry!

One violation equaled a B+ and about $100 off my bill after MONTHS of not driving/driving like an old lady. None of the m*rons I spoke to could satisfactorily explain how 1 violation equaled a B+.

In conclusion, I really think this promotes bad driving habits. It conditioned me not to stop short, which is not a great reflex in NYC. The devices are garbage, so 3 months will be 5 or 6. AND even with 1 violation in months, the best you'll get is $100 off your policy. I'm certain that if you have 10-20 violations (they easily rack up, believe me), you'll end up owing a ton.

Steer clear (and very slowly).

I had a terrible experience with Progressive insurance. When I tried to cancel my policy, they claimed I owed them money, which was a complete lie. They scammed me and were very unhelpful when I tried to resolve the issue. I would not recommend Progressive to anyone.

This account is the only thing dragging down my score. I feel a class action suite. Next stop is to filing official complaint with consumer protection. Every one who had the same thing happen needs to file complaint. Progressive trying to make money illegally targeting innocent consumers

I just want to say that this insurance company has the worst communication staff. I had a car accident, and the person who hit me has Progressive. I gave Progressive two options for body shops to take my BMW X3 to, but when I mentioned the first shop, they said they don't work with them. So, I provided them with another shop and gave them the information. They confirmed they do work with that shop, but Jeremy, the manager, also told me he knows the body shop manager and has given work to them as well. It was all a scam; they never worked with that body shop. Now my car looks bad because Progressive failed to fix my car properly and lied about working with this shop. Is it easier for insurance to save money than to fix something properly? The parts the body shop used were aftermarket, and if you have to use aftermarket parts, at least get the job right. I had told this body shop that I do not want aftermarket parts because they rarely fit the vehicle correctly. Progressive has been very unfair, not taking responsibility for their lack of communication, and not informing me that they don't work with Classic Collision. The people I was dealing with were Sharay and Jeremy.

Worst company ever. I had an accident; the other party claimed full responsibility, and because they were underinsured, his insurance company had my insurance, Progressive, handle it. My own insurance company, Progressive, not only denied my damages but also lowballed me on other work. It's been almost two years and I still haven't received compensation for the $8,000 I had to pay out of pocket. This company is horrible. They will lie, stall, and make it nearly impossible to get paid. They require you to pay everything upfront and say they will reimburse you, but then they give you far less than what you paid. The adjusters they employ are dishonest. As a certified technician, they even tried to misinform me about damages to my vehicle. Please avoid this insurance company; it has cost me well over $50,000 in losses. They expect you to pay out of pocket for any surgeries because most hospitals I attempted to use refused to bill Progressive, stating they do not pay or it is difficult to get reimbursed. I'm not only sharing this because I am angry and frustrated but also because of their unprofessional behavior and outright lies.

The worst ever, never again in life will I pick them for my insurance for my car. Overcharged and not worth it. Geico is better, ten times better. I didn't have to put extra money or anything when I switched, just a flat rate of $130. I didn't have Progressive for 30 days and they charged me $100, and also charged me $345 even though I had no tickets and no accidents. Just a total rip-off.

PLEASE STAY AWAY

Terrible experience with Progressive

I recently had the unfortunate experience of dealing with Progressive after my car was involved in an accident on February 22. I cannot stress enough how disappointed and frustrated I am with their handling of the situation.

First and foremost, their estimate of my car as a total loss was completely inaccurate. Not only did they undervalue my vehicle, but they also failed to consider the possibility of repair. This left me in a difficult position, as I now have a car that I am unable to use but still have to pay for. To make matters worse, despite having possession of my car, Progressive refuses to cover the cost of a replacement vehicle or provide any form of temporary transportation. This has left me stranded and without a means of transportation, forcing me to rely on costly alternatives.

Even more infuriating is the fact that I am still expected to make monthly payments for a car that is essentially useless because they have my car. It is simply unacceptable for Progressive to expect me to continue paying for a vehicle that I am unable to use due to their own mishandling of the situation.

I have repeatedly reached out to their customer service team "Nicole Yecguanchuy", only to be met with vague responses and empty promises. It is clear that customer satisfaction is not a priority for Progressive. One of the most concerning incidents occurred when my car was at the body shop. Progressive was pressuring me to sign the papers to release the car, claiming that there was a fee they needed to pay if the car remained there. I decided to help them, I reluctantly signed the papers. However, as soon as I signed, Progressive suddenly stopped responding to my inquiries and concerns.

Since then, I have been left to deal with the consequences of their actions. Despite having possession of my car, Progressive has failed to provide any form of compensation or reimbursem*nt for the loss I have incurred.

I am now left in a situation where I have to continue making monthly payments to the bank for a car that I cannot use.

The accident occurred when another driver rear-ended my car. I immediately reported the incident to the police, who arrived at the scene and conducted a thorough investigation. The police report clearly states that the other driver was at fault for the collision and he also has Progressive. However, Progressive entered false information into their system, claiming that the accident was my fault.

As a result of this unjust attribution, I have suffered the loss of four points from my driver's license. These points not only affect my driving record but also have potential consequences on my insurance premiums. It is disheartening to see the negative impact this false claim has had on my reputation as a responsible driver.

In conclusion, my experience with Progressive has been nothing short of a nightmare. Their inaccurate assessment of my car as a total loss, refusal to provide a replacement vehicle or temporary transportation, and expectation of continued payments for a useless car have left me feeling cheated and taken advantage of. I strongly caution anyone considering their services to think twice before entrusting Progressive with their insurance needs.

Pray you do not get hit by someone with Progressive Insurance. The body shop I wanted to take my car to, attached to the dealer, will not deal with Progressive and refused to fix my car. The accident happened on Sunday, and I got a call from Progressive on Friday at noon. Now, keep in mind that I have to travel to an airport 1.5 hours away for work on Sunday. The body shop cannot take the car until Monday, and the rental place has no rentals available until late Monday. Progressive will not allow me to drop off the car Friday afternoon so I can get a rental, which I understand is contingent upon the body shop receiving the car. This arrangement would have allowed me to leave it at the airport. They have turned something simple into a nightmare. I did not cause the accident; I was parked and was backed into. They say pleasant things to tickle your ear, but I ended up doing all the legwork to make it happen.

They charged my son (Jonathan Ramirez), even though he has a perfect driving record, the absurd amount of $450 for one month and could not justify it, so he dropped them. Nevertheless, we still stayed with them, but then we also received a significant monthly increase which they could not justify either. Consumers, beware of this company!

If I could give zero stars, I would! My policy got canceled after I had an auto accident, but before it was canceled, they increased my monthly premium! So, not only was I canceled without a real reason, I'm stuck paying a large "last payment" or else they will report me to the credit bureau.

I wasn't driving my vehicle when the accident occurred. They kept asking for information about the driver but never clearly specified what they needed. I spoke with my adjuster and explained that the person driving did not live with me. When I asked why they needed anything, I was told not to worry about it. Now, I got canceled because I didn't provide the information they requested! Even today, when I asked for specifics, they couldn't give me a direct answer to what was required. I was simply told I didn't provide what they needed, and that was the reason for the cancellation.

It's ironic how two weeks after the claim on my vehicle was completed—it took five weeks to get an answer about the damage (total loss or fixable)—I get canceled with no chance of being reinstated.
