What happened to Joanna Dennehy from C5's The Killing Spree? (2024)

Over ten years ago, the news of a woman stabbing three men to death in a ten-day crime spree rocked the nation.

Joanna Dennehy, 41, stabbed lover Kevin Lee and housemates Lukasz Slaboszewski and John Chapman, dumping each body in ditches in Cambridgeshire in March 2013.

After the killings, Dennehy and accomplice Gary Stretch, 58, drove to Hereford where she repeatedly stabbed two other men - Robin Bereza and John Rogers - at random, with the pair surviving the attack.

In 2014, Dennehy was handed a whole-life prison term - the third given to a total of four women in British history, including Rose West, Myra Hindley and serial child killer Lucy Letby - for carrying out the attacks to gratify her 'sad*stic love for blood.'

As The Killing Spree: Hunting Joanna Dennehy airs on Channel 5at 10pm tonight, the documentaryoffers a chilling insight into the life and crimes of the former Home Counties schoolgirl.

Who is Joanna Dennehy?

Joanna Dennehy, 41, is from St. Albans in Hertfordshire.

She was brought up in a stable family home in a rural area, where her mum Kathy worked as a shop assistant and dad Kevin worked in security.

However, Dennehy ran away from home at the age of sixteen and never returned.

Dennehy went on to have two children, including a daughter named Shianne Treanor, who was just 13 when her mother committed one of Britain's most heinous crimes.

In 2013, Dennehy was arrested after a ten-day killing spree, which left three men dead and two more in a critical condition.

Psychiatrists later diagnosed her with 'psychopathic, anti-social and emotional instability disorders' before she was jailed for life.

Who did Joanna Dennehy kill and why?

In March 2013, during a ten-day spree, Joanna Dennehy killed two of her roommates and her lover in Peterborough before attempting to slaughter two more men she randomly encountered walking their dogs.

Her overall goal was to - along with her accomplice Gary Stretch - murder nine men in total, to be like the infamous duo Bonnie and Clyde.

Although she attempted to kill two more men, she failed and fell way short of her intended number.

During a ten-day killing spree, Dennehy stabbed lover Kevin Lee and housemates Lukasz Slaboszewski and John Chapman, dumping each body in ditches in Cambridgeshire.

After the killings, Dennehy and Stretch drove to Hereford where she selected two other men - Robin Bereza and John Rogers - at random and repeatedly stabbed them, leaving them in critical condition.

All of the murder victims died from multiple stab injuries, including wounds to the heart.

At the height of a nationwide man-hunt, she bragged to one witness that she had killed eight people - although no further murders have been detected.

Dennehy was likened to 'Uma Thurman from Kill Bill and the woman from the Terminator' by married father-of-two Mr Lee shortly before his death.

Mr Chapman had dubbed her the 'man woman' because of her intimidating nature.

After his death at a house in Peterborough, on or around March 19, the body of Mr Slaboszewski, 31, was stored in a wheelie bin, whileMr Lee was found dressed in a black sequin dress with his buttocks exposed.

Dennehy, who was brought up in a stable family home in the Home Counties, carried out the attacks to gratify her 'sad*stic love for blood.'

The Old Bailey was told the killer had a ‘sexual and sad*stic motivation.' Later she told a psychiatrist: 'I killed to see how I would feel, to see if I was as cold as I thought I was. Then it got more-ish.'

Experts said Dennehy craved notoriety and wanted to humiliate her victims through sick sex games. Before the killings she had boasted she had already killed four times.

Dennehy was handed a whole-life prison term in 2014, being the fourth woman to be given one - along with Moors murderer Myra Hindley, House of Horrors serial killer Rose West, and serial child killer Lucy Letby.

Where is Joanna Dennehy now?

Dennehy is currently carrying out her sentence at HMP Low Newton, near Durham, a maximum security prison for Britain's female killers that once imprisoned Rose West.

According to reports,Dennehy threatened to kill Rose West within minutes of arriving in the same jail forcing her into solitary confinement and then another prison in 2018.

Staff at HMP Bronzefield in Surrey were so worried she would murder West that the 70-year-old was put into solitary confinement within minutes and then moved to another prison the next morning.

Since her stint in prison, Dennehy was found to have written'graphic' letters to a 61-year-old male officer at HMP Bronzefield near Ashford, Surrey in 2021.

But the romance only came to light after the officer was being investigated for an alleged inappropriate relationship with another female prisoner.

In 2020, it was reported that Dennehy is dating a fellow female murderer in prison, with the pair having murdered four men between them.

Dennehy coupled up with Emma Aitken, 25, jailed alongside her father and boyfriend for killing one man, reports The Sun.

The pair, who are both serving life, are believed to have met at Low Newton Prison in County Durham, the highest security prison for women in Britain, when Dennehy was transferred there in 2018.

Dennehy was likened to 'Uma Thurman from Kill Bill and the woman from the Terminator' by married father-of-two Mr Lee shortly before his death.
