Kian Hayes had only been driving for just over two weeks when his insurance app pinged him to say that his policy was being cancelled because he had been speeding.
Hayes, 17, passed his driving test in November and took out a black box insurance policy with the company Ticker, paying £3,100 for the year. Drivers with these policies agree to have a device in their car that monitors their driving, taking into account speed and any sharp braking or accelerating. If you have driven well after a year, according to the black box, Ticker will give you a discount on your next year’s cover.
